•Proper Work Attire (this includes hat, hair, clothing, shoes, jewelry, etc.)
A food handler’s attire plays an important role in the prevention of foodborne illness. Dirty clothes may harbor pathogens, as well as give customers a bad impression of your establishment. Therefore, managers should make sure food handlers observe strict dress standards.
Food handlers should:
o Wear a clean hat or other hair restraint
o Wear clean clothing daily
o Remove aprons when leaving food-preparation areas
o Remove jewelry from hands and arms prior to preparing food and when working around food-preparation areas.
•Preventing diseases
o Wash their hands properly after using the restroom or whenever their hands have become contaminated
o Avoid coughing or sneezing on food
o Avoid touching or scratching wounds and then touch food they are handling
o Do not come to work while sick
o Wear gloves when is necessary (mostly all the time)
o Use proper cutting boards for each foods (fish, meat, vegetables and fruits)
